Welcome to the San Francisco Beacon Initiative’s Workforce Development Efforts
Background
With the ever-changing landscape of the youth development field, staff shortages have been a longstanding challenge. Exacerbated by the pandemic, staffing constraints impacted the field’s ability to support youth programming and staff’s ability to grow and develop as professionals. This is especially problematic as the youth development workforce is majority BIPOC young adults at the beginning of their careers whose demographics and identities are reflective of the youth they support.
Our Mission
Employing a strategic workforce development approach, SFBI’s workforce development efforts will build programs and pathways to recruit, train, and support youth development professionals to address the specific, immediate and long term staffing needs of youth-serving CBOs in San Francisco.
Our Vision
Support professional development of current staff to ensure skill growth and retention.
Tapping into the reservoir of willing and capable youth through a counselor-in-training model
Intentionally coordinating existing efforts while growing pathways to employment through partnerships with universities, colleges, and youth facing CBOs.
