End of Summer Celebrations
Happy August! Summer flew right by and the new school year is just around the corner. Our Beacon Centers are ending summer programs with big celebrations, many in which involve culminating showcases and field trips. As summer programs incorporate project based learning to prevent summer learning loss, the youth expand their skills and explore active engagement in learning by creating tangible and fun projects to present to their parents and community. By planning and presenting their work in these showcases, youth have a stronger sense of belonging and connecting with others. After a summer's hard work, some programs award their youth participants with a memorable trip.Below are some photos from Beacon centers across the city.Bayview YMCA Beacon at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School have their youth present a slideshow of how they managed and spent their group budget.
