Michael Plank, Beacon Director at Dr. George Washington Carver Beacon Community School
Michael joins Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco with several years of mentoring and program management experience. After graduating from Willamette University with his Bachelor’s in Sociology, he spearheaded the creation of the Oregon College Mentors in Salem, Oregon. The program brought tremendous support and resources for at-risk youth in the Salem-Keizer Public School District. Thereafter, he ventured into the world of college basketball coaching, where he continued his role as a mentor for young adults. As a basketball coach, one of his greatest achievements was helping his players balance rigorous athletic schedules, academic responsibilities, and personal growth and development. In 2016, Mike took his passion for serving others a step further by obtaining his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He is excited to return to education to help make an impact for youth by providing support and guidance.Here are some appreciations from his Director, the San Francisco Beacon Initiative:
